Requirements for residence in Andorra

It is essential to obtain a residence permit to live in Andorra. There are several types of permits, which are adapted to different needs and which are detailed below:

Obtaining an ACTIVE Residence

This type of residence is intended for people whose home is permanent in Andorra and whose center of economic and vital interests will be located in the Principality. The requirements for this type of residence are to reside more than 183 days a year permanently and effectively in Andorra. In conclusion, this type of residence is focused on persons whose main objective is to work in the territory. In turn, there are two types of Active Residence permits:

Obtaining PASSIVE Residence

With passive residence, you can reside in Andorra without carrying out any activity. Passive residence implies residing in Andorra for at least 90 days per calendar year. This residence is focused on those who do not have the main objective of working in Andorra, since it basically works to live in the country. This residence allows the development of economic activities through capital companies in which you are a participating partner, and beneficiary of the result via dividend distribution. Residence for professionals with international projection

This residency profile is aimed at Professionals with international activity and without substantially intervening in the Andorran market, whose services can be provided remotely. These professionals can be programmers, advisers or traders, influencers and digital nomads. This residence permit is valid for 2 years, and must be renewed for 2 more years and with a 3-year extension. After 7 years, the next renewal will be for 10 years.

  • Deposit €50,000 in the AFA (recoverable and unpaid) and €9,500 in the AFA for each dependent.
  • Have sufficient financial means to maintain the owner and his dependents in Andorra.
  • Medical, disability and old age insurance with coverage for Andorra.
  • Accreditation of a viable business plan
  • Provide at least 85% of its activity outside the principality.
  • Headquarters of activity in Andorra.
  • Hiring a maximum of 1 person under labor regime


Residence for reasons of scientific, cultural and sporting interest

This type of residence does not require a mandatory investment either, as long as sufficient qualification and professionalism is demonstrated, as well as proof of income from the corresponding field. This residence is designed for those people who have been recognized for their achievements. This residence permit will have to be renewed after the first year and then every three years.

 

  • Deposit €40,500 in the AFA (recoverable and unpaid) and €9,500 in the AFA for each dependent.
  • Have sufficient financial means to maintain the owner and his dependents in Andorra.
  • Medical, disability and old age insurance with coverage for Andorra.
  • Accreditation of a viable business plan
  • Provide at least 85% of its activity outside the principality.

Obtaining a residence permit for regrouping

Presently, residents in Andorra can regroup their family members (depending on the nationality, the time for regrouping varies) so that the resident family member can apply to the Immigration Service for their family members’ residence. Reunification can be requested for the following family members:

  1. Spouse or unmarried partner of the applicant.
  2. Minor children.
  3. Adult children
  4. Ascendants and retired persons dependent on the resident and over 65 years of age.
  5. Persons under legal guardianship or children of the partner.

In the case of passive residences, the residence processing for regrouped persons is carried out at the same time as the residence of the primary holder.

Obtaining temporary residence

Annually, the Government of Andorra sets several work permits for foreigners that companies can hire. This quota gives preference to Spanish, French, and Portuguese foreign residents, European Union residents, and other countries.
